Who is St. Nicholas?
Is Santa Claus Real?
The true story of Santa Claus begins with Nicholas, who was born during the third century in the village of Patara in Asia Minor. At the time the area was Greek and is now on the southern coast of Turkey. Obeying Jesus’ words to “sell what you own and give the money to the poor,” Nicholas used his whole inheritance to assist the needy, the sick, and the suffering. He dedicated his life to serving God and was made Bishop of Myra while still a young man. Bishop Nicholas became known throughout the land for his generosity to those in need, his love for children, and his concern for sailors and ships. . He died young on December 6, AD 343 in Myra.
The anniversary of his death became a day of celebration, St. Nicholas Day, December 6th (December 19 on the Julian Calendar).
Through the centuries many stories and legends have been told of St. Nicholas’ life and deeds. These accounts help us understand his extraordinary character and why he is so beloved and revered as protector and helper of those in need.
He has been called:
Santa, Santa Claus or Father Christmas
Kris Kringle, Father Frost, or Sinnterklaas
Babbo Natale, Papa Noel, or Père Noël
just a few of the many names he goes by.
He is remembered throughout the world not for his religious views, but for his gift giving, generosity and care of the poor. As well, he is celebrated at different times of the year and in different costumes. That is why Santa Dan can be booked at anytime of the year, as well in any one of our unique, traditional or vintage outfits.
Sleigh Parking
Though Santa can park the sleigh on the roof, he would prefer a spot close to the location where he is to enter. Not only does this help prevent Santa taking a tumble, it makes it easier for him to make a quick entrance or exit when needed.
Does Santa need a place to change?
A private, out of public sight and secure location is greatly appreciated. Santa can generally show up, ready to go. However, in some situations it is best if Santa has a private area to avoid delays. If he is spotted coming from the parking area, it can be difficult to avoid breaking someone's heart when Santa doesn't stop to chat.
Santa needs a break
Bookings for 3 hours need a brief 15 minute washroom break (more than 3 hours should be broken up to allow Santa time to freshen up). Some cold water is always appreciated, especially in hot rooms.
Cozy fireplace on
Generally most locations are comfortable but in some situations, the heat is turned up. If this is the case, a breeze blowing from a directed fan is always welcome.
Sofa or chair?
A sturdy chair is recommended for Santa to sit on, preferably if possible a love seat. This gives him room to do some posing or have a group join him in the photo. Certainly a chair that can support the weight of Santa and an adult. Remember some adults are just big children at heart. Please no deep cushions as these are not easy to get in and out of.
Elf assistants
It is always advised to have a helper/elf to work with Santa.
especially in large events. They can bring children to Santa, or even help hand out gifts. Santa's eyes are not as sharp as when he was younger, packages with names printed in very large bold letters is very helpful. If gifts are to be given out by Santa, it is best to be done at the end of your event, then while everyone is enjoying their new surprises, Santa can quietly leave.
Late visits
Sometimes delays can happen during your event. Though Santa always tries his very best to work with you should something cause a delay in start or finish time, he is not always able to stay for a extra long period of time.
For those who celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas Dec 5/6, St. Nicholas can be there with you. Also for festivities surrounding the Orthodox Christmas Celebrations of Jan 7th. Just as Santa is celebrated throughout the world on different days, Santa Dan is willing to travel and celebrate with you on your special date.
